Blabbing about: Pulp Fiction(199)

Hello!

I have always wanted to watch this film, for as long as I remember.
(I think...lol) I mean, the poster's like so iconic, I bet everyone has
at least seen the poster before.
Yep.. I first knew about this from from the poster.
Yep, I did fell in love with the design.
I didn't even know it was a Quentin Tarantino film till
I watched Reservoir Dogs and found out about the director.

Well, anyway, here goes my review!



Pulp Fiction (1994)
Action, Crime

I would say this very straightforward, I really REALLY LOVED THIS FILM!!!!
As soon as the film started and the opening credits started to roll I was like
"FUUUUUUUUU THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING!!!!"
And it didn't disappoint me one bit! Ah... Quentin Tarantino I love you.
(Even though I've only watched two films lol)

I think this film has a lot of similarities with Reservoir Dogs. For example, well,
the film starts in a cafe, the credits roll along with (amazing) music and the next scene is in a car.
(Does this make sense? lol)

There were so many things I loved in Pulp Fiction but oh my god I cannot say them all.
Ok, I will just write them down in points in no particular order:

❤️THINGS I LOVED ABOUT PULP FICTION❤️

1. The beautiful cinematography. The shots and scenes were all so sophisticated, I just love, loved it (for example, tracking shot used in the restaurant) I sometimes get dizzy but oh well lol.

2. The music. I LOVED THE SOUNDTRACK. I need to download it and listen to it everyday on my ipod.(lol jk, I don't even have a ipod) Now I can fill my life with both the Reservoir Dogs and the Pulp Fiction soundtrack.

3. The humour. This was such a funny film. I laughed so hard. I laughed at pretty much everything. I think that this film was hilariously frightening. (For example, I laughed so much in the scene where Butch is looking for a weapon at that Pawnshop, I don't even know why haha) Uh... I love crime films with lots of black humour. 

4. Vincent and Jules(Full stop). To be honest, this is my first time seeing both John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson(Well...except seeing John Travolta in Carrie) I loved them both. You don't know how much I loved the "dork" scene. It doesn't get any better than this.

5. The Narrative Structure. At the end where it connects to the beginning, I literally shouted "THIS IS SO AWESOME". I love stories with interesting narrative structures.

6. The Harvey Keitel character. Mr Wolf was just awesome, uh, loved it. I was actually waiting for Harvey Keitel to appear on screen haha.

7. The Quentin Tarantino character. I LOVED JIMMIE. Seriously, he was one of the highlights of this film for me. Loved his pajamas, loved the coffee talk, just loved everything.

8."The Bonnie Situation". Personally, my favorite chapter. I just loovvee Mr Wolf, Jimmie, Vincent and Jules (sorry Butch etc lol)

9. Mia. I loved her. "Why do we feel necessary to yak bullshit to order to be comfortable?" 

10. Just pretty much every dialogue spoken. "I'm the foot fucking master!" hahaha.

......And many more but I can't remember them all so I'll just finish for "10 things I love.." for now.

I thought this film was much, much better than I expected.
(Just by looking at the poster) Good I didn't do any research haha.

I just found out I can use "film review" templates to help me but I can't really
seem to find a perfect one so I'll just mix together some I found and make my own..
(lol, am I allowed to do that? )

3) Setting:
I have no idea to be honest! I know its some big city in America but I'm guessing it's somewhere made up (like Gotham city) And I'm pretty sure it is set in the time of realise, the mid 90's.
Ohhh.. I went on Wiki and it says its set in LA. Oops.

4) Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character was either Vincent or Jimmie (lol) But.. I might say Jimmie ahaha.
I don't know why but I just loved him so much. He was just hilarious, talking about his coffee and calling Vincent and Jules a dork when they wore his clothes




5) Who was your least favorite character and why?
I loved everyone but I never liked the boss, Marsellus. And to be honest, I couldn't really
connect to Butch either (But his girlfriend was adorable)

6) Did you feel any connection/sympathy towards any of the characters?
Well no, not at all(hopefully) I don't really have any connections with hit men, boxers,
gangsters, or bandits. But, I think I have a connection with Vincent and Jules as a fact that
I talk and do the stupid things that they do with my friends too(NOT, shooting people but
talking about McDonald's etc haha)

7) What was your memorable/favorite scene and why?
My most memorable scene might be...hmm.....either the scene where Vincent and Jules get
changed into the "dork" outfit or the "Miracle" scene where they both don't get shot.
Other memorable scenes will be, well, the opening credits.

8) What was your most memorable/favorite quote and why?
I have heaps! I think I can easily quote ANY bit of dialogue.



What other film can you laugh when someone is talking about picking
up pieces of human skull shattered all over the backseat of a car?

9) Did this film remind of of any other films and why?
It reminded me a lot of the previous Tarantino film Reservoir Dogs.
(Well, maybe because the director and some of the cast where the same lol)
But it was just so original. I know the director has added homages from different
films but I couldn't pick them up. Well except some like the The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reference.

10) What do you think were the main themes/ideas of this film and why?
I don't know. I watched this film expecting it 100% for entertainment purposes.
Well, I can say the theme of this film is violence. And drugs.
One of the things that made me think about was that it's better not to carry
large amounts of money in your wallet in case someone steals it lol.

11) Did you enjoy the film? 
YES I DID. This was such an amazing film viewing experience.
I think I will never get bored of this film and I would continue watching it!
I think I need to add this to my "Escape from all this shit" Film list.

In conclusion, this was such a highly-stylized, funny,
amazing, clever film that is just absolutely perfect.
I loved everything.

Well....except the rape scene. I know it was extremely brief but I seriously
wish I can unsee that. Ugh, that was just horrible. It was like the most
horrible rape scene I have ever seen. Never can forget that.
(Next time I watch this film I am definitely fast forwarding that part.)

randomly on the internet. (I actually don't know where.)

Maybe I should search about it first, hold on.

Nope.. can't find any information anywhere.

On some websites it says 1930's and on another 

it says 1940's lol. I think it's 1940's though.

(Just guessing lol)

I think I did a reasonable job but damn it looks so..

whats the word for it, like I put no effort haha.

Never mind, I did it in like 10 mins anyway.

And..here it is! lol. Just floating in mid air.

The posing looks very different since I hardly looked

at the photo while I was drawing it.

I have to look more closely next time.

Blabbing about: A star is born (1954)

Hello!

I just watching the film, "I star is born" which I have been longing
to view for so long.



And it was just extremely, super, AMAZING.
Oh my fu*king god I AM CRYING.
IT'S 10 PM AND WTF I AM SO EXCITED.
I FEEL LIKE DANCING AROUND THE HOUSE.

Ok... I should calm down now..ahem.
It's just that this film was just ... so extraordinary.... I can't... 

So...well... I think I'm a bit calm downed now so
I shall start my actual review now..



A Star is Born (1954)
Musical

I loved this picture so so much. I don't know what to do.
I want to watch this everyday of my life.
Ahh... I have a thousand things to say about this film but
it's all muddled up and I don't know what to say now.
(damn I'm so crazy.)

Judy Garland was just absolutely amazing .. like she was 
dazzling. Ugh..I am making no sense at all.
The whole time I just felt so sad. Why didn't she receive an oscar?
It just made me extremely angry.

Both performances by Judy Garland and James Manson were
extremely powerful. This film itself was just flawless as it can be.
Ahh... musicals are so damn amazing. 
Uh, and I also thought the directing was also very interesting!
The voice overs with the photographs, nothing I have ever seen
in a musical before.

Oh how amazing it will be if I can just hug Judy Garland.
Well, I'll just imagine hugging Judy Garland and tell how much
I love her in my head (Don't tell me I need a life.)

Oh Judy Garland Judy Garland...Judy Garland.....

I mean, how can you not love Judy Garland after watching
the Here's What I'm Here For number?

I've said this already, but this film was just absolutely perfect.
I seriously didn't expect this much at all.
I am so glad I got to watch this wonderful picture.

Just cry all day cause Judy Garland is so flawless.

So, my next step is to purchase this on a blu-ray copy.
So I can watch it anytime I want to.
I'll add this to my "films to watch when I want to forget everything" list.

Nice romantic films are great too, but I sometimes just get sad watching
them; but I'm never not in the mood to watch A Patch of Blue.)


OK, this wasn't a review at all and it was just me making no sense at all
but well, never mind. It's just that this film was too amazing.

I just want to say this I feel like this film is so underrated and it
deserves more applause. I love glorious technicolour musicals and
I love Judy Garland. (And I also love the 50's too!)

 

I mean, the trailer always makes me cry.

Blabbing about: The Red Shoes (1948)

Hello!

I can't really remember how I came to this film actually.
Hmm.....maybe..uh....oh yeah, I found a copy at a DVD rental store
and the cover seemed pretty interesting so I went home and searched
about it and as a technicolour musical lover, it was a must see.

Ok, here goes the review!



The Red Shoes (1948)

The one thing I want to say is that I couldn't appreciate ANY of the beautiful
cinematography because I saw it on a dodgy DVD I rented out from the library.
Uh...how stupid could I get. I could of got it out on blu-ray but I was so
cheap I didn't...(The blu-ray was $5 whereas the DVD was $1)



This is the DVD I saw it on, DON'T WATCH IT ON THIS!!
(And probably all the other series in the "masterpiece collection")
The quality was extremely bad and the whole screen was like a dirty mud colour.
Oh man, this is supposed to be a beautiful technicolour musical....

So, ok, besides my poor choice on what I watched it on,
I thought it film was absolutely amazing and I'm sure I would love it
even more (and discover the true beauty) if I get to view it on a remastered edition.

I thought the main character, Vicky was so pretty. UGH,
I wish I had red hair and blue eyes like her.

I thought that this film had such a unique atmosphere,
it was unlike any other film I have ever seen before.
It was like, I can smell this film. (Does that make sense? lol)




I complete fell in love with the directors, and now I'm
desperate to watch "The tales of Hoffman".
Unfortunately, I cannot get a hold of the digitally restored 4K version
(UGHHH it will be SO AMAZING if I can though!)
So I hope that the DVD for it will be reasonably ... restored? lol.
I mean, the trailer for it is so beautiful. UGH, please god make sure
"The tales of Hoffmann" at my DVD rental store is good quality!(lol)

So that's about it! lol, this was completely a rant more than a review
but oh well. One of the most annoying things in my life are bad quality DVD's.

It's be so long since I last posted on this blog lol. Anyway, I would like to write a review for this wonderful(looking) film that I have not yet seen. This time I will write a before watching and after watched thingso it's a little different.

Ok so here I go!

She becomes addicted too, and life goes downhill for them both as their addiction deepens, eventually leading to a series of betrayals. But, in spite of it all, the relationship between Bobby and Helen endures.

BEFORE THE FILM

I have to admit this, I think I am starting to get addicted to Al Pacino.
After viewing scarface, I HAD to watch another Al Pacino film.
And, I decided to watch this for a few reasons.

Ok, It's not that I don't like romance films.
I just always get annoyed of the heroine. A lot.
And I also get tired of all the cliches. There a a few romance themed films
I absolutely love, but I dislike most. I don't really know why.
I'm just really picky I guess.

So..... I went on IMDb and read the brief plot and it kind of hit me somewhere.
I want to watch a heart breaking romance between young Al Pacino and the poor
homeless girl(I don't know anything about this film really but I'm guessing this is correct, right? lol)

I REALLY, REALLY want to love this film.
I want this film to be one of the best romantic films I have seen(well, at least this year.)
lol I really am expecting so much aren't I... maybe this is bad. oops.

But seriously, look at the poster. The tagline "God help Bobby and Helen. They're in love
in needle park" makes me really want to watch it!
Oh man.... I really hope I can enjoy this film...
I hope I don't get pissed of at the heroine...GOD HELP ME (lol)
(Oh my god every time I try to spell "heroine" I always type heroin)

So what I expect to see in this film is a very sad, tender romance between
Bobby and Helen that will tear my heart out.
And I hope I can love Helen. So I can love the whole film.

Oh yeah and I don't really like the title of this film.... It doesn't sound too
appealing to me. If I just heard the title somewhere I would never bothered to even
search about it, seriously.
And by the way, the Japanese title of this film "哀しみの街角" translates to
"The street corner of sadness". I actually like that title better lol. Just talking about the title ok....

AFTER THE FILM:

Ok, it has been a few days since I finished viewing this film actually but I'll
write the review now!

To be honest, yes... I was kind of disappointed. Maybe I just expected too much.
But besides that, the film was extremely noir raw and I thought it was fantastic.
The drugs, constant smoking/drinking, prostitution... there was nothing glamorous
about anything and thats what made the film so bold.

This film took me so much time to finish even though its a relatively short/normal
length film. I think that it's just because it was so dark and heavy.
(The no soundtrack was extremely effective)

So to be honest, no I didn't really enjoy.... well....enjoy is a strange word isn't it.
I mean, I don't think this is a film that most people can enjoy since the whole
film has a very quiet and dark atmosphere and the story is very slow paced.
It wasn't a film that you can necessary enjoy viewing but it was great watching
a nice 70's film with young Al Pacino!

So in conclusion, I thought this film was great on it's own but It's not the type of  film
that I personally like. What I thought was great about this film was that
everything was so realistic. Like, there was no Hollywood glamour or movie
cliches or stereotypes. For example, the ending when Bobby gets out of
prison, there is no dramatic reunion where "the girl runs up to the guy crying, shouting his name
and jumps onto him and they kiss and the movie ends"(lol).
It was just so casual, so real.

Blabbing about: Reservoir Dogs (1992)

Hey!

So, a while ago I found out about this amazing film and having been interested ever since.
(I went to the video rental store and found this DVD and kind of fell in love.)
And.... I finally got the opportunity to watch it today!
You don't know how much I have been waiting for this moment.
(I couldn't watch it straight away because of... restriction reasons. Meh.)

So here goes my short and not-review-like review!

Reservoir Dogs (1992)

(You don't know how long it actually took me to memorise how to spell the word "Reservoir"....)

OK, I would like to start of by saying that this film was absolutely amazing and I loved it so much.
I just...I can't really explain in now haha. I thought it was just bang on my...my type? lol
This was my first Quentin Tarantino film and I am so impressed!!!!
I am so addicted to 70's-90's R-rated Crime films. UGH best thing ever.
(The 90's are really amazing aren't they? I can't believe I actually think this way now but lol)

With so much of shouting and swearing and violence, I felt kinda tired when I finished
viewing this haha. I still feel so hyped up because it was so amazing.
I seriously need to calm down now...

Towards the end, I was literally watching this film like this:



The ending was so intense.. ah, so amazing how films can make you feel so excited.

Anyway, I loved this film so so much and would definitely watch it again.
I personally feel like this film would never get boring...
It was just- UGH. So great. I think that crime films with comedy is one
of the best things ever.Oh and yes- I loved the soundtrack!

I would personally give this lovely film a score around a 8.5 out of 10.
(Daym I feel like a fancy film critic saying this haha.)

This is actually kind of weird but I watched "The Piano(1992)" today as well.
I thought "oh my god Harvey Keitel is everywhere"...lol.
Well anyway, all the sexy, romantic-ness from The piano 
blew right away as soon as put on Reservoir Dogs haha.

I haven't written a review for The Piano but I loved it to bits as well!
Just thinking about the film now kind of makes me melt.
That was such a sexy film. And Reservoir dogs? not so sexy haha.
(That scene where Mr Blonde cuts of the policeman's ear.. while I was
watching it all I thought was "Man this is so not sexy.")

random film talk: The De Niro Addiction

Hey! 

Ok, so, as you can see in the title, What I want to talk about today is

just..well, what kind of films I've been into lately.

And..... Yesterday, I watched half of "The Godfather part Ⅱ(1974)",

And then I watched half of "Raging Bull(1980)",

And then I watched half of "Mean Streets(1973)".

OH MY GOD THE DE NIRO ADDICTION IS REAL.

(but man... why the hell didn't I finish any of the 3???

I've seen Mean streets previously but..oh man, why am I like this...

I LOVED Mean streets. I thought Jonny Boy was absolutely adorable.

And of course, Charlie. UGH SO GORGEOUS.

WHY IS EVERYONE IN 70'S FILMS SO HOT?????

(I know this isn't like a, film that I should be drooling over but who cares lol)

You seriously don't know how much I am in love with Johnny and Charlie.

And...one thing I want to say is that, oh man I feel like such a retard saying this but,

Why was Johnny and Charlie in the freakin SAME BED?????

That's just too hot man. Don't make me imagine these things god...

Every time I want these things to happen and let my imagination go wild

and feel extremely guilty, I always think of what the screenwriter of

"Rebel without a cause" said in my all time favourite documentary"The celluloid closet". 

It was something like how films are in offering to an audience to make "our own film".

SO I'M GONNA DO THAT HAHAHA.

Yesterday while I was watching the wonderful "Godfather part Ⅱ"and "Raging Bull", 

It made me cry a little because all these amazing things that 

happen in the movies would never happen to me.

I thought - Ah, life. Like is such a bitch.

Well, at least I can see all these masterpieces.

Makes my life a hell a lot better.

(I wonder if there is a god of films lol

Because if there was, then I will have to thank him/her.A lot.)

So, my goal for now is to purchase "Mean Streets"On DVD, or even better, on Blu-ray.

I will watch it everyday and cry every time at how adorable they are.
